Visibility settings
This is the page worth two minutes of your time.
Two layers
Section titled “Two layers”Visibility in RUFREE is decided by two layers together:
Layer 1: each event's visibility (Private / Busy / Friends / Groups) ↓ ANDLayer 2: account switches (course details, location, live status, …) ↓ what the other person actually seesThey combine as AND — either layer can hold something back.
Layer 1: event visibility
Section titled “Layer 1: event visibility”| Visibility | Effect |
|---|---|
| Private | Hidden entirely; the time does not even count as busy |
| Busy | Shows as “busy” with no details |
| Friends | Friends see the details |
| Groups | Group members see the details |
New events take your account’s default visibility. Changing that default does not apply to events that already exist.
privacy-visibility-01Layer 2: account switches
Section titled “Layer 2: account switches”| Switch | Controls |
|---|---|
| Show course details | With this off, even a “Friends” event shows only as busy |
| Show location | Whether rooms and locations are visible |
| Show live status | Whether others can see that you are in class right now |
| Discoverable | With this off, you do not appear in search |
| Show courses to non-friends | Whether people who are not friends can see your courses |
privacy-visibility-02Common situations
Section titled “Common situations”Share free time without revealing what I study → Set events to “Busy”, or turn off “Show course details”. Shared free time still works.
Only the project team, not all my friends → Mark those events “Groups”, not “Friends”.
Do not let anyone find me → Turn off “Discoverable”.
A few classes are personal → Mark just those events “Private” and leave the rest alone.
Shared free time is the exception
Section titled “Shared free time is the exception”It reads only busy/free, never details, so setting everything to “Busy” does not affect it.
The one catch is “Private”: private events do not count as busy, so others may treat that time as free.
